Circular design considers the ongoing cycle of raw materials, going beyond re-cycling to re-use and adopt the upcycling of products that have reached their end of lifespan.
The concept of a circular economy has been around for decades but is only now entering the mainstream as businesses and consumers alike are beginning to understand its potential benefits.
There are many advantages to circular design, including reducing waste, conserving resources, and saving money.
There is nothing wrong with recycling but it is not the most efficient way to conserve resources.
Repair and reuse are much better options because they keep products in use for longer, which reduces the need for new resources.
In a circular economy, products are designed to be repaired, reused, and recycled instead of being disposed of after just a single use.
This not only conserves resources but also reduces waste and pollution.
Circular lighting design takes into account the entire life cycle of an LED light fixture or light bulb, from manufacture to disposal.
Reduce: Use less material in the first place by designing products that last longer or can be reused.
Reuse: Repair or refurbish products instead of throwing them away.
Recycle: Recycle materials from old products to make new ones.
For this to truly happen, a product must be designed to yield the benefits of repair from it’s inception as a product.
As a modern lighting distributor & consultant we are committed to providing high quality, sustainable lighting products that help our customers reduce their environmental impact.
We offer a range of circular lighting products from manufactures here in the UK.
Orluna LED‘s products are made from over 85% recycled materials and are 95% recyclable, but more importantly they are designed to be reused or recycled at the end of its lifespan.
The company offers a 20 year take-back and recycle service for all of its products, making it easy for customers to do their part in creating a circular economy.
Orluna have a circular design 4 step process:
When an old Orluna light comes to the end of its life, or it is faulty, instead of throwing it away we ask you to return it to Orluna.
The ‘don’t throw me away’ label on every product is there to remind you what to do and how to do it.
A renewed light engine is sent out to you on the same day.
Your old light engine is returned to Orluna (in a pre-paid envelope).
Once received the fitting is dismantled, repaired and renewed with a new LED and Printed Circuit Board.
The fully repaired and tested product enters back into our stock – with a brand new warranty.
The ‘new’ light fitting is despatched to the next customer who would not know the difference.
This approach is more cost effective for you, the customer, as well as being more environmentally friendly. It also reduces Orluna’s carbon footprint as they are not constantly producing new lights from scratch.
